Lots of people use a regular pencil to mark cut lines on their project pieces, but that may not always be the best choice. For dark surfaces, use a light colored pencil (like white). To avoid leaving permanent marks, try chalk. On tile or other smooth, hard surfaces, a marker may work best. If you’re worried about leaving marks that can’t be removed, apply tape to your workpiece, and then mark your cuts directly on the tape.
